Eyeliner and eyeshadow stencils are becoming pretty popular because they can help you get accurate eyeliner and eyeshadow placement effortlessly.
In this tutorial, I’m going to show you how to use eyeliner and eyeshadow stencils, so you can get perfect eye makeup.
These work so great, especially for those who don’t have a strong hand when it comes to applying eyeliner. Let’s get started.

I'm using the Cat Eyeliner Stencil and Smokey Eye Stencil by Beth Bender Beauty, though there are other eyeliner stencil options available.
How to use an eyeshadow stencil
1. How to use an eyeshadow stencil
Let’s start applying eyeshadow. Here I’m using this lovely plum color, and I’ll be using an eyeshadow stencil, as shown above.
This is a suitable stencil for those who have hooded eyes and need help finding their crease.
All you need to do is hold the stencil right above your mobile eyelid and apply the eyeshadow all across the eyelid and around the edges of the stencil.
Tip: Layer the eyeshadow to give it intensity.

Once you’re happy, remove the stencil, and you’re left with perfect dome-shaped eyeshadow.
Softening the edges with a brush
Clean your brush on tissue, then go in with the same brush and soften the edge.

2. How to use an eyeshadow stencil to get a wing
If you want a wing shape, simply put the wing-shaped stencil on the outer corner of your eye and apply more eyeshadow to form the desired shape.
Pull the color from the edge of the stencil onto the mobile eyelid. I’m using a black glittery charcoal eyeshadow for this step.

Once you remove the stencil, you’re left with a nice crisp line. Magic, right?

Now, place the eyeliner stencil on top of the lid and line it up with the crisp wing you created in the previous step.
Fill in the liner part using the same dark eyeshadow you used for the wing. Do this in quick, pressing motions as you work your way through the stencil.

Don’t be concerned if the stencil doesn't go right to the corner of your eye. You can move it closer and fill in the gap with an open eye.

Line up the bottom liner stencil right underneath your lower lashes. Using the same charcoal black eyeshadow, fill in the area with quick swiping motions.
Also, make sure it connects to the outer corner of the wing too. You'll only need to do this ⅔ of the way across your lower lashline.

Using a gel-based eyeliner, line your waterline.
Applying mascara
5. Apply mascara
Apply mascara to the top and bottom lashes.
Tip: You can also opt for faux eyelashes!

So, here’s the beautiful cat eyeliner look solely with eyeshadow and a stencil. It’s soft, subtle, and very accurate!

6. Add gel eyeliner
If you want to do the cat eye using the gel liner, then you already have the guide in place. All you have to do is carefully go over the dark eyeshadow with your black gel liner.
Tracing over the stencil lines
You're basically tracing over the line; it's a great way to perfect your skills, too.
Tip: If you don't have a steady hand, feel free to put the eyeliner stencil back over the eyelid for better accuracy.
