Blake Shelton revealed plans for his long-awaited Las Vegas residency on Thursday, but he’s still holding his cards pretty close to his famous vest.

Conversations surrounding a possible extended play for Shelton in Las Vegas swirled for years before construction on the Las Vegas location of his Ole Red entertainment complex began. The space opened on the corner of Las Vegas Boulevard and Flamingo Road in January.
“It’s been five or six years now that that’s kind of been a possibility, and I just kind of kept kicking the can down the road,” Shelton said. “It became obvious that it was going to happen at some, but I wanted to wait until Ole Red was completed and it was up and running and all the kinks worked out before I did the Vegas residency. Because I want to be able to play both of them honestly while I’m there.”
Blake Shelton Wants to Play His Residency And His New Ole Red Bar While in Las Vegas
“The Voice” alum readily admits he’s uber-competitive. When he saw everyone from Shania Twain and Carrie Underwood to Garth Brooks, Luke Bryan and Keith Urban slapping down extended Vegas runs, he didn’t want to be left out.
“It seems to be the new watermark for, ‘Have you made it?’ whether you’ve had a Vegas residency or not,” Shelton said. “So, I definitely need to check this one off the board because it seems like anybody who is anybody is doing a Vegas residency. It’s just a cool thing to do now.”
When the February slot opened at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace, Shelton snapped it up. He said six shows is a short residency but that it’s the first time-possibly in his career-that he’s played six back-to-back shows in the same venue. The closest experience for him was going to work on “The Voice” every day, and that was a different beast entirely.
“I’m looking forward to it,” he exclaimed. “I haven’t really thought about what the show’s going to be or anything, to be honest with you. I mean, we literally just completed the agreement or whatever in the last few weeks. Now it’s time to start thinking about what it’s going to be.”
Blake Shelton Jokes He Won’t Hang From the Rafters
He said six shows is a short residency but that it’s the first time possibly in his career that he’s played six back-to-back shows in the same venue. Shelton went to 12 or 13 of his wife Gwen Stefani’s residency dates, so he knows how residency shows differ from typical concerts on tour. Carrie Underwood does aerial work during her residency. Bryan constructed a huge bridge over the audience. And Brooks leans heavily into the songs and his connection with the audience.
Shelton quips that his show will be more like Brooks’ than Underwood’s because his physique is built more for holding guitars than swinging from scarves.
“I don’t know what the weight limit is on the rafters over there, so I better not be hanging from anything,” he laughed. I kind of have an idea of how it’s different, what people expect, and what I want to do as far as something different than what I do on a regular tour. This will be way different for me, but I’m excited about it.”
